Cristiane Ueno, M.D., M.B.A., is an associate professor of clinical surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She previously served as a clinical associate professor and associate program director of the plastic surgery residency program at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
Born and raised in Brazil, Ueno earned her medical degree and completed plastic surgery training there before moving to the United States to join the wound healing research lab at the University of California, San Francisco. She later completed general surgery and plastic surgery training at IU. Her clinical experience spans rural Appalachia, where she practiced general reconstruction and breast cancer care in West Virginia, to the West Coast, where she expanded access to gender-affirming care at Kaiser Permanente.
Ueno’s clinical interests include general reconstruction, gender-affirming surgery, burn care, breast reconstruction, skin cancer treatment, facial trauma and hand injuries. In addition to her clinical work, she is active in national surgical leadership and education. She serves as vice chair of the Healthcare Delivery Committee for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and chairs the Social Media Committee for the American Council of Educators in Plastic Surgery. Her work has been published in the Journal of Surgical Education.
She is dedicated to treating patients like family and values strong connections with those she serves. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures and spending time with her family.
