Bio

Jonathan Ting, MD, MS, MBA, joined the faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery in 2012.

Dr. Ting has served as chair of the department of otolaryngology since December 2019.

As the first fellowship-trained rhinologist in the state of Indiana, Dr. Ting provides advanced clinical and surgical care for patients with nose and sinus disorders, as well as skull base and orbital tumors. He pioneered a multidisciplinary collaboration with the IU School of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery that has grown to over 100 endoscopic pituitary and skull base surgeries a year.

Dr. Ting has previously served as quality officer and vice chair for academic affairs for the department of otolaryngology. As chief of otolaryngology at IU Health Methodist Hospital, he managed the clinical expansion of otolaryngology at the hospital to over 800 cases a year. Since 2014, Dr. Ting has directed the longest running postgraduate course in the country: the more-than-century-old annual Anatomy of the Head, Neck and Temporal Bone.

His research involves outcomes from the management of sinus and skull base disorders, as well as technological advances and innovative approaches to skull base and orbital lesions.

Dr. Ting obtained his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario and completed his residency and post-doctoral research fellowship at IU School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in rhinology—endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He earned a master's in clinical research at Indiana University and an MBA in finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

As department chair and the Richard T. Miyamoto Scholar, Dr. Ting is committed to supporting the growth of a diverse, highly engaged faculty who provide outstanding education for our residents and fellows; deliver world-class care to Hoosiers; and advance our understanding of science through extramurally funded research.

In his free time, Dr. Ting enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
