Bio
Amy Han is Director of Clinical Education, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, and Co-Director of the Urban Medicine Program at Indiana University School of Medicine—Northwest. She created IU School of Medicine’s first Scholarly Concentration in Urban Medicine and Healthcare Disparities and, in 2021, designed and helped implement the Urban Medicine Program Track at the Northwest campus. Her work in medical education and community-based participatory research began early in her tenure at IU School of Medicine. When she joined in 2007, regional campus students completed only the foundational science curriculum locally. In 2009, she developed and implemented the third- and fourth-year clinical curriculum at the Northwest campus — the first regional campus in the system to offer a full four-year medical education experience. Since then, she has continued to expand programs through clinical education partnerships and community-engaged scholarship. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she initiated research examining its impact on local communities. Her current work focuses on improving health awareness and expanding preventive strategies to reduce disparities in Gary and surrounding underserved communities and to strengthen resilience to future public health threats. This work reflects her expertise in addressing social and structural factors that influence health outcomes in Northwest Indiana.
Dr. Han holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from University of Notre Dame and a Master of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She remains actively engaged in her community, serving on the boards of regional healthcare organizations, including a hospital system and a federally qualified health center, as well as nonprofit and business organizations. She also serves as Executive Director of the Asian American Medical Association. Dr. Han lives in Northwest Indiana with her husband, Dennis, an otolaryngologist–head and neck surgeon, and their three children: Nicola, Daniel and Christian.
