Dr. Wurtz serves as both chair and as an associate professor for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as chief of musculoskeletal oncology at IU School of Medicine. As a musculoskeletal oncology surgeon, Dr. Wurtz diagnoses and treats patients with musculoskeletal malingancies within the Indiana University Health. His research contributions also are in musculoskeletal oncology, where he his efforts could enhance efforts in diagnosing and treating primary and metastatic bone malignancies.
Dr. Wurtz earned his medical degree at the University of South Alabama. He then completed an internship at Keesler USAF Medical Center a residency at USAF Medical Center, and a fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Wurtz's primary research contributions are in the field musculoskeletal oncology. The main focus for his research efforts are the diagnosis and treatment of primary and metastatic bone malignancies.
As a musculoskeletal oncology surgeon, Dr. Wurtz diagnoses and treats all patients with musculoskeletal malingancies within the Indiana University Health health care system. These diagnoses include both sarcomas and metastatic carcinomas or myeloma involvement of the extremities. Dr. Wurtz's team is a referral site for the State of Indiana and parts of the Midwest region. He is currently an investigator on IRB-approved protocols for biospecimen banking and plans to expand this activity to include samples of metastatic disease and host muscle.
