The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at IU School of Medicine is proud to welcome an all-female fellowship class in 2024.

Five female physicians have joined the division for its three-year ACGME-accredited program, which combines excellent clinical and academic training to produce outstanding gastroenterologists.

 

Meet the fellows

Sarah Yates, DO, attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency at IU. She has an interest in motility as well as general GI.
Best advice you’ve received?: “Tough times don’t last but tough people do.”

 

Kaela Miller, MD, attended IU School of Medicine and completed residency at Duke University School of Medicine. She has an interest in hepatology and medical education.
Best advice you’ve received?: “Take a deep breath. If you have your breath, you have everything you need.”

 

Elizabeth E. Williams, MD, attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and completed residency at IU. She has an interest in transplant hepatology.
Best advice you’ve received?: “Never take life too seriously!”

 

Hareem Syed, MBBS, attended Dow Medical College and completed her residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She has an interest in luminal and IBD.
Best advice you’ve received?: “There is no point wondering about what ifs, just focus on what is.”

 

Marta Arjonilla, MD, attended St. George's University and completed her residency at Stony Brook University Hospital. She has an interest in luminal.
Best advice you’ve received?: “Whatever you do, be present, whether that is work, family or self-time. Give it your all in all realms. At times you’ll have to adjust the amount of time you set aside for each, and that is OK, but be 100% present.”
