As a medical student, you are required to maintain health insurance coverage for the entire time you are enrolled at IU. To help you meet this requirement, you’ve been automatically enrolled in the IU-sponsored Professional Student Health Insurance Plan administered by Anthem Student Insurance Plans and University Health Plans (UHP).
If you already have other medical insurance, you may be eligible to waive this coverage. You have until September 15 to do so.
A new waiver must be submitted each academic year. If you lose your other coverage during the year, you can enroll in the IU Professional Student Insurance Plan by completing the online qualifying life event form (available on the website) within 30 days of the loss of your other coverage.
Enrollment in this plan includes medical, prescription, vision, and dental coverage — all for one premium. Premiums are automatically billed to your bursar account at the beginning of each semester.
IU partners with University Health Plans to administer the plan and help with waivers, dependent enrollment and eligibility-related questions. UHP can be reached at 833-251-1717 or info@univhealthplans.com.
For benefit or claim-related questions, Anthem can be reached at 844-412-0752. Questions may also be directed to the IU Student Insurance office at 812-856-4650 or studenhc@iu.edu.
