On April 25, the IU School of Medicine Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) sent out the following email to students. We're running it here to ensure you get this necessary information. If you did not receive the email from OSFS, email medaid@iu.edu to let them know.
As you prepare for your summer classes from June 1 to July 31, we want to make sure you have the information you need about financial aid. Whether this is your first time taking summer coursework or you’ve done it before, please review the details below to stay on track for both summer and the upcoming academic year.
Summer 2024 (2024–25 FAFSA Required)
Registration & Aid Packaging
The medical school registers you for your summer coursework. After registration is complete and you have a 2024–25 FAFSA on file, our office will typically review your eligibility within a couple of weeks and determine your summer financial aid. The summer term completes your 2024-2025 academic year.
Summer Term
Please note that summer is considered a separate term for both financial aid and billing purposes and is not part of the fall/spring academic year. You can find more information about billing for summer on the IU Indianapolis Bursar website.
Federal Unsubsidized Loan
If you have remaining eligibility, you will be offered a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan for summer. Once your aid is posted, go to this link or log in to One.IU, search Financial Aid and click on "View/Manage My Financial Aid Information" to accept your unsubsidized loan.
Grad PLUS Loans
If you plan to borrow a Grad PLUS Loan for summer, please complete a loan application for the Summer 2025 term (May to July 2025). Once you apply for a Grad PLUS loan, please allow 7-10 business days for it to be processed and appear on your One.IU account. If this is your first time applying for a Grad PLUS loan, a Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling will be required before the loan will disburse. Once the loan has been processed, students can view it on their student center in One.IU.
Apply for a Summer Grad PLUS loan.
Aid Disbursement
Financial aid will be disbursed 10 days before summer classes start and will be applied directly to Bursar bills. Refunds are typically sent out from the Bursar on Fridays after aid has been disbursed. Refunds sent via direct deposit are typically delivered within 2–3 business days after disbursement.
Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 (2025–26 FAFSA Required)
To be considered for financial aid for the next academic year (Fall 2025 & Spring 2026), submit your 2025–26 FAFSA.
You will be notified via IU email once your summer aid is viewable in your Student Center. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at medaid@iu.edu.
