Submit application by Dec. 15 for dermatology research year

For second- and third-year students considering dermatology, Northwestern University's Department of Dermatology has a gap-year research fellow opening in its Division of Dermatologic Surgery from June 2025 through May 2026.

During this mentored research year, you'll learn to apply clinical research methods to complete several individual research projects regarding skin cancer and skin surgery.

While the position is unpaid, gap-year students will attend national meetings to present their work and are given appropriate training. All gap-year students who completed this program over the past decade were successful in matching in dermatology residency.

Interested students should email Areeba Ahmed with:

  • One PDF containing their CV;
  • Step 1 report (if available);
  • At least two letters of recommendation from prior clinical or research mentors who know them well.

Submit application materials by December 15.
