Debra Patterson is registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiography (R), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computed tomography (CT). She completed her radiography education in 1990, earned a B.S. in Medical Imaging Technology in 2001 from the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Medical Imaging Technology (MIT) program, and obtained an M.S. in 2005 in Health Science Education from IUSM.
Throughout her career, Debra has served in various roles, including lead technologist in both radiography and MRI. Her extensive experience spans work in CT, radiography, and MRI at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, IU Health Methodist and University Hospitals, and Riley Children’s Hospital. Since 2010, she has held the position of Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiologic Sciences in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences (RADSCI) at IUSM. As the Program Director for the IUSM MIT program, she oversees the clinical practicum and didactic curricula for students specializing in advanced modalities, including bone densitometry (BD), cardiac-interventional (CI), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography (M), and vascular interventional (VI).
Debra is an active member of numerous medical imaging and educational societies, including the International Society for MR Radiographers & Technologists (ISMRT), where she has served as a Governance Board Member, Online Learning Chair, and currently serves as Executive Secretary, contributing to various committees. Her additional memberships include the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), American Society for Testing and Materials International (ASTM), Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology (ACERT), Association of Educators in Imaging & Radiologic Sciences (AEIRS), Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists (ISRT), International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI), the National Honors Society for Radiologic and Imaging Sciences (Lambda Nu), and the West Coast Educators Council (WCEC). Additionally, she has served as a site visitor for the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) in radiography and MRI, upholding high standards and quality in medical imaging education.
