Bio
Milos Marinkovic, PhD, is an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a VA research health scientist at the Richard L Roudebeush VA Medical Center. His research focuses on extracellular matrix biology and its application in aging and regenerative bone tissue engineering.
He has academic affiliations with the IU Cooperative Center of Excellence in Hematology and the Hematopoiesis & Hematologic Malignancies Program at the IU Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center at the IU School of Medicine.
Prior to joining IU School of Medicine, he served as assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and as a VA research health scientist at South Texas Veteran's Health Care System.

My research is focused on extracellular matrix biology and its application in aging and regenerative bone tissue engineering. My work emphasizes the proteomics, cellular mechanics and molecular architecture of the extracellular matrix in shaping tissue-specific progenitor niches and their alterations due to aging and disease. A key area of my work involves examining changes in bone marrow progenitor niches during physiological aging and understanding how these changes affect bone marrow homeostasis and tissue maintenance. My efforts are geared towards developing microphysiological models to identify degenerative mechanisms of these niches, and innovating strategies to restore aging bone marrow niches by developing in situ matrix engineering or “matrix-as-medicine” interventions.
