Dr. Lingzhong (LZ) Meng is Professor of Clinical Anesthesia and Vice Chair for Clinical and Outcomes Research for the Department of Anesthesia at Indiana University School of Medicine. He previously served as Chief of Neuroanesthesia at Yale University and has held academic appointments at several of the nation’s leading institutions, including UCSF, Duke, and Mayo Clinic.
With more than 20 years of experience in academic medicine, Dr. Meng is internationally recognized for his research in perioperative cerebral blood flow, hemodynamics, tissue perfusion monitoring and management, and the integration of artificial intelligence into clinical decision-making. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as The BMJ, Anesthesiology, Nature Communications, Intensive Care Medicine, European Respiratory Journal, npj Digital Medicine, and the British Journal of Anaesthesia. His work has been cited more than 6,000 times, with an H-index of 36 (as of June 2025).
Dr. Meng has delivered more than 200 invited lectures and keynote presentations worldwide and serves as an editorial board member and peer reviewer for several top-tier medical journals. He has led multiple multicenter clinical trials and AI-powered research initiatives, including the HM-TARGET framework and the DynaCEL model for personalized hemodynamic management in critical care.
A committed educator and mentor, Dr. Meng has trained over 100 students, residents, and junior faculty, many of whom have gone on to establish independent academic careers. He is also the founder of the Global Perioperative Case Discussion Forum, an international education platform that has hosted more than 130 sessions to date.
His academic mission is grounded in interdisciplinary collaboration, translational science, and clinical relevance, with a sustained commitment to advancing patient outcomes through evidence-based innovation.
