Bio
Dr. Dawn Bravata is a core investigator for the VA Health Services Research and Development Center for Health Information and Communication, an attending internist in the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, and Regenstrief Institute Research Scientist. Dr. Bravata was the first to benchmark the quality of stroke care for patients in VA hospitals in a study that identified opportunities to improve. She has conducted several prospective, randomized controlled clinical trials to evaluate a strategy of diagnosing and treating sleep apnea among patients with a cerebrovascular event and found that treating sleep apnea results in clinically meaningful improvements in neurological functioning and a reduced risk of recurrent vascular events for patients with stroke and transient ischemic attack.
Dr. Bravata's clinical focus is on measuring the quality of care for patients with stroke and transient ischemic attack, the effectiveness and implementation of those patients’ interventions, and identifying and treating medical co-morbidities in patients with cerebrovascular disease.
Dr. Bravata is a Senior Mentor in the VA’s National Mentoring Network. She has been named Fellow of the American Health Association (2009) and Clinician Investigator of the Year in the New England region by the Society of General Internal Medicine (2005).
