Dr. Shadia Jalal is Professor of Medicine and Lawrence H. Einhorn Chair in Oncology, specializing in thoracic oncology with particular expertise in esophageal cancer, small cell lung cancer, and non-small cell lung cancer treatment and research. As a physician-scientist, Dr. Jalal leads innovative research focused on improving lung cancer therapies through the development of novel treatments, identification of biomarkers for treatment response, and investigation of the role of diet in cancer outcomes.

With nationally recognized expertise in thoracic malignancies, Dr. Jalal provides comprehensive care for patients with lung cancer and esophageal cancer, offering access to cutting-edge clinical trials and personalized treatment approaches. Her research program, supported by competitive grant funding, advances the understanding of lung cancer biology and develops new therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Jalal serves in leadership roles at the national level, including service on multiple professional committees and currently serves as a Deputy Director for the VHA National Oncology Program.
