Bio
Diane Chen, MD is a dual fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist and surgical oncologist of the head and neck. She joined Indiana University School of Medicine faculty in 2022.
After growing up in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Chen moved to Houston, Texas to attend Rice University where she graduated summa cum laude in Biochemistry & Cell Biology. She then completed her medical training at Baylor College of Medicine, was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, and stayed at Baylor to complete her otolaryngology residency. During her training, she developed a passion for surgical oncology and managing complex tumors in both adults and pediatric patients. This led her to complete a Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstruction fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, followed by a Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship at Ann & Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital, Northwestern University in Chicago. She is an active member of the Women in Head and Neck Service in the American Head & Neck Society and the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology.
Dr. Chen is a gifted and compassionate surgeon who have hopes in creating a continuity of care pathway in young patients with head and neck pathologies who reach adulthood. She has published on a variety of topics related to head and neck cancer and airway surgeries. Her warm and approachable disposition combined with technical expertise also makes her an outstanding mentor to residents and medical students. She was a finalist in 2021 Exemplary Senior Trainee Award with the Women in Otolaryngology program with AAO-HNS. Her clinical interests are in pediatric head and neck tumors, complex airway surgery and reconstruction, survivorship, and robotic surgery.
Outside of work, Dr. Chen can be found enjoying yoga, rock climbing, and spending time with her family.
