Bio

Dr. Hala Fatima graduated from the Aga Khan University Medical College in 1998. She then pursued her internal medicine residency followed by a Gastroenterology fellowship at Indiana University, where she has served as faculty since 2006. She is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Indiana University, Section Chief of Gastroenterology at Eskenazi Health, and Director of Endoscopy.

Dr. Fatima is a fellow of both the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Gastroenterology Association. Her niche is the endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s esophagus and early esophageal cancer. She offers advanced endoscopic therapies including radiofrequency ablation, cryotherapy, and endoscopic mucosal resection, as well as endoscopic fundoplication for refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease. She also has a strong clinical interest in colorectal cancer screening, polypectomy, GERD, eosinophilic esophagitis, esophageal strictures, and the use of esophageal and colonic stents. 

Most recently, Dr. Fatima was nominated to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AΩA) at Indiana University School of Medicine. This prestigious recognition reflects her high academic achievement, leadership, professionalism, research, teaching, and service—a true testament to her lifelong commitment to advancing medicine and patient care.
