Bio
Dr. Jones is considered an expert in the field of cardiac membrane biochemistry. He discovered, and is responsible for, the molecular characterization of several key membrane proteins controlling the strength of the heartbeat. These membrane proteins include several different ion channels and pumps in cardiac cells required for regulation of intracellular calcium concentration. He received the BS degree, with Highest Distinction, from Purdue University, and the PhD degree in biochemistry from Indiana University. He obtained his MD degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and joined his alma mater in 1977, later becoming a senior research associate of the Krannert Institute of Cardiology.Dr. Jones’ research interests center on the cloning and molecular biology of cardiac membrane proteins, understanding second messenger regulation of the strength of the heartbeat, and purification and biochemical characterization of membrane proteins required for calcium homeostasis. He is a former Public Health Service Biochemistry Trainee and an Established Investigator of the American Heart Association. He served as vice chairman and chairman of the Gordon research Conference on Cardiac Regulatory Mechanisms and currently serves on the editorial boards of Circulation Research and the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
