Stephanie C. Sharpe, MD

Bio

Dr. Stephanie Sharpe is the Associate Dean for MD Admissions at Indiana University School of Medicine, having previously served as the Assistant Dean for MD Admissions and Student Financial Services. Dr. Sharpe is an Assistant Professor of Medical & Molecular Genetics and is the Frank C. & Ruby L. Moore and George Lukemeyer Endowed Scholar and Chair of the Admissions Committee.

Dr. Sharpe graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington with a BS in Biology and Psychology. Dr. Sharpe graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1998 and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Ball Memorial Hospital. After practicing Family & rural Emergency Medicine for several years, Dr. Sharpe returned to academic medicine at her alma mater.

Since joining the IUSM faculty, Dr. Sharpe has been very involved in medical education and curriculum development. She teaches and mentors medical students and actively researches best pedagogical practices for implementation of statewide curriculum. She is the Statewide course director for the Phase 1 course, Molecules to Cells and Tissues (MCT), a course integrating Medical Genetics, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Sharpe brought the concept of Grand Rounds to MCT where students meet patients with genetic and metabolic disorders, providing clinical context and a deeper understanding of being a patient, or family member of a patient, living with a chronic condition.

Dr. Sharpe is also a Master Clinician in the Foundations of Clinical Practice (FCP) course where she previously served as the Assistant Statewide Course Director. Dr. Sharpe is passionate about recruiting and teaching the next generation of physicians and has served as co-chair of the Admissions Committee since 2020.

In her free time, she loves traveling, spending time with her family and watching football.
