Bio
Dr. Mohanty currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. Dr. Mohanty received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and an MS in health services and outcomes research from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his general surgical training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI and his fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2019. His clinical practice spans all benign and malignant colon and rectal disease. A trained health services researcher, his work seeks to understand and improve cancer and surgical care delivery to older adults with the tools of data science, network analysis, and systems science. With collaborators at current, he is developing machine learning methods to passively predict postoperative delirium, a common and devastating complication, from routinely collected unstructured and structured health care data and determine receipt of guideline-concordant colorectal cancer care. He also conducts age-friendly quality improvement and implementation work at the IU Health Academic Health Center. His work has been funded by AHRQ, American College of Surgeons, the Hartford Foundation, and the NIH.
Dr. Mohanty is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), the American College of Surgeons, and the Surgical Outcomes Club.
