Bio
I joined the faculty at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1997 after obtaining a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Michigan. I have enjoyed conducting collaborative research in many areas, primarily health services research, cancer research, and quality of life in chronic illness. I am the Director of the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design Program of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Nationally, I co-founded the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design Special Interest Group of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science (with Dr. Leah Welty at the Northwestern Fineberg School of Medicine) and am very active in that group.

I am the Director of the Design and Biostatistics Program of the Indiana CTSI. My collaborative interests include all aspects of cancer research, health services research, and quality of life research. My research interests are in the area of categorical data analysis. Many biomedical studies involve outcomes which are qualitative in nature. In my dissertation, I discuss using models which are non-linear in the model parameters to simultaneously model the univariate and bivariate marginal relationships in two-way and multi-way contingency tables having ordinal classification levels. This type of analysis is useful, for example, when studying rater agreement and social mobility data.
