Bio
Miriam Neufeld, MD, MPH, currently serves as Assistant Professor. Dr. Neufeld received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and their Masters of Public Health from Boston University.
Prior to joining Indiana University, Dr. Neufeld completed her residency in General Surgery at Boston Medical Center/Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and her Fellowship in Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Her clinical focus is in acute care surgery and includes the care of trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care patients.
Dr. Neufeld’s research focus is in clinical outcomes and the public health aspects of trauma care. She is particularly interested in understanding the epidemiology and prevention of injury and violence. She has served as a principal investigator, co-investigator, and contributor to more than 20 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Neufeld’s research is focused on trauma outcomes of victims of violence, the mental health impacts and social ramifications of violence, and the prevention of violent reinjury. She has also engaged in multiple projects centered on firearm violence from a public health perspective. Her work has also expanded to emergency general surgery topics, particularly related to the epidemiology and management of acute appendicitis.
