Raghu Motaganahalli, MD, is a Professor of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine and an Attending Vascular Surgeon at IU Methodist Hospital, where he serves as Division Chief of Vascular Surgery. He has led vascular surgery training programs at Indiana University as Program Director from 2012 to 2026, cultivating a legacy of surgical education and mentorship.
Dr. Motaganahalli received his medical degree and completed his general surgery residency in India, followed by visiting fellowships at the Cardiovascular Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He subsequently completed general surgical and vascular surgery residency training at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. His broad international training has informed a distinguished career at the intersection of clinical excellence, research, and surgical leadership.
He holds fellowship distinction in several of the world's foremost surgical organizations, including the Society for Vascular Surgery (Distinguished Fellow), the American College of Surgeons, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is a member of the American Surgical Association and an Associate Member of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.
Dr. Motaganahalli has served in numerous leadership roles at the regional and national levels. He is a past President of the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society (2021–2022) and the Indiana State Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and served as the ACS Governor representing the Indiana State Chapter (2024–2025). He currently serves on the Society for Vascular Surgery Postgraduate Education Committee and Strategic Board, as a Council Member of the American Board of Surgery, and as a Director on the Vascular Surgery Board.

A prolific investigator and scholar, Dr. Motaganahalli has served as Principal Investigator on more than 40 clinical trials in vascular surgery and as the U.S. National Principal Investigator for the DW-MRI Transcarotid Revascularization trial. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and abstracts, and regularly presents his research at leading national and international surgical conferences. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Annals of Vascular Surgery, and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
