Bio

Richard L. Bell, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis.  Dr. Bell’s research focuses on the development of alcohol use disorders (AUDs) in rodent models of high ethanol consumption.  His interests include a genetic predisposition to develop an AUD, and how selective breeding for this behavior results in animal models that parallel genotypes and phenotypes observed in family history positive, for an AUD, individuals.  He also investigates autonomic (e.g., changes in heart rate) reactivity to alcohol/ethanol-associated cues, e.g., cue-reactivity to environmental stimuli linked with alcohol self-administration.  Finally, he continues to examine the effects of alcohol exposure and/or self-administration during adolescence and emerging adulthood on subsequent neurobiology and behavior in adulthood.
