Bio
Dr. Lane is an Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. He joined the faculty in 2020 after completing both Neurosurgery Residency and a Fellowship in Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery within the department. He is board certified with broad clinical interests in general neurosurgery, global neurosurgery, and resident education.
Dr. Lane completed undergraduate studies with a degree in Advanced Physics and a minor in Chemistry from Northwestern University. As an undergraduate, he worked under an institutional grant at the International Institute for Nanotechnology studying the use of metal nanoparticles in the detection and regulation of intracellular mRNA. He was subsequently awarded a Fulbright Grant to continue his nanomaterials research at the RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany. Upon his return, he began medical studies at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where he focused his interests in the Neurosciences and decided to pursue a career in Neurosurgery.
As a faculty, Dr. Lane serves as the Section Chief for Neurological Surgery at Eskenazi Hospital, Director of Global Neurosurgery, and Associate Director of the Neurosurgical Residency Training Program. His clinical practice focuses on both cranial and spinal surgery including trauma, tumors, and degenerative spine disease. His research is focused toward clinical outcomes improvement and the development of models for international neurosurgical exchange. He is actively involved in international initiatives within the AMPATH Global Program and regularly visits Kenya. Dr. Lane is also heavily invested in medical student and resident education. In 2024, he received the department’s faculty teaching award.
