Bio
Dr. Michael “Joey” Hobson graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and pediatric critical care fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. In 2012, he returned to Indiana and joined the Division of Pediatric Critical Care at Riley Hospital for Children. He has served as medical director of the PICU since 2014.
Over the past several years, Dr. Hobson and colleague Dr. Brian Leland have partnered with Indiana Donor Network to create a novel approach that allows ICU physicians to engage with patient families in conversations around the potential for their child to serve as an organ donor. Known as Project BLEND (Bridging Language Effectiveness for Organ Donation), this initiative has led to increased consent rates for organ donation within the pediatric ICU at Riley Hospital for Children. One of the most sacred and important duties as intensivists is to compassionately guide and support patient families during the loss of their child. Project BLEND has helped patient families find meaning and peace during these tragic events, while helping to save the lives of other children through the process of organ donation.
