Dr. Julie Welch is Professor and Vice Chair of Faculty Development in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She completed a Faculty Fellowship in Mentoring and was a founding member of the Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis Mentoring Academy. She has held leadership positions, including Director of Mentoring Training for the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (ICTSI) and Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. She presently serves as a faculty mentoring liaison for IU School of Medicine. Over her career, Dr. Welch's scholarship has focused on advancing faculty development, mentoring, physician wellness, workplace policies, and evidence-based practice. She currently works as an attending physician at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Welch has been recognized for her efforts at the local and national levels. She received the IU School of Medicine Clinical Excellence in Faculty Mentoring Award, IU Trustee Teaching Award, Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association National Mentorship Award, IU Indianapolis Outstanding Women Leader Award, and AMA Inspirational Physician Honoree. As Vice Chair, her leadership was instrumental in the Department of Emergency Medicine receiving the 2021 American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Emergency Medicine Wellness Center of Excellence Award.
