Bio
Dr. Diaz is an attending psychiatrist on the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service at IU Health University Hospital, where he practices at the intersection of medicine and psychiatry. He accompanies patients and trainees through some of the most complex and vulnerable moments in clinical care. He values the careful integration of medical and psychiatric understanding, not only as a skill set, but as a way of attending to the whole person.
His professional life has been shaped by a longstanding commitment to teaching and formation. He helped develop IU’s ACGME-accredited Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship and continues to serve as Associate Program Director, mentoring trainees as they grow in both competence and judgment. He also serves as Associate Medical Director for the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction, contributing to efforts that strengthen mental health care across the state.
Dr. Diaz has remained engaged in organized psychiatry as a way of giving back to the profession that has shaped him. Within the Indiana Psychiatric Society, he has been especially committed to mentoring early-career physicians and advocating for thoughtful, patient-centered care. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Over the course of his career, he has held various leadership roles, including serving as past president of the Indiana Psychiatric Society and the Indiana State Medical Association. These experiences have deepened his appreciation for collegiality, stewardship, and the shared responsibility of sustaining the profession for those who follow.
As he approaches the later part of his professional life, Dr. Diaz remains especially interested in the quieter work of mentoring, reflection, and helping others find a sustainable and humane way to practice medicine.
