Two Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology faculty members recently received the Indiana University Board of Trustees’ Teaching Award: Adeoti Oshinowo, MD, MPH, assistant professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, on the Indiana University School of Medicine Indianapolis campus, and Joseph P. Harmon, MD, assistant professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Clinical Medical & Molecular Genetics on the IU School of Medicine South Bend campus.
The Indiana University Board of Trustees recognizes faculty excellence in teaching annually through the Trustees’ Teaching Award. Award recipients receive a monetary award and are honored during the spring IU School of Medicine All-School Meeting.
Oshinowo is a board-certified gynecological surgeon and provides the full spectrum of gynecological care for women of all ages at several locations of Indiana University Health, including Riley Hospital for Children. She specializes in advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, including laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, treatment of advanced endometriosis and vaginal surgery. Oshinowo received her medical degree from Stanford University and completed her residency at University of Michigan and her fellowship at Florida Hospital Orlando. She also earned a master’s degree in public health from University of California, Berkley.
Harmon currently serves as director of Clinical Skills Education and teaches several courses for first- and second-year medical students. He also serves as the statewide course director for Transitions 2 for early third-year medical students. Harmon practiced obstetrics and gynecology for more than 23 years for OBGYN Associates of Northern Indiana. He received his medical degree from IU School of Medicine and completed his training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Indiana University Medical Center. Harmon also completed a master’s degree in medical and molecular genetics at IU.
