We are a global community. This pandemic reminds us that global health impacts each one of us. Never have our lives looked so similar around the world: we’re all experiencing lockdowns, all grappling with prolonged uncertainty, and all transitioning to virtual work and education as much as possible.
Three years ago, the Division of Global Health in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine began working with our partners at Patan Academy of Health Sciences in Nepal to prepare for an infectious disease outbreak. This January, those plans operationalized, and we continue to work towards increasing COVID-19 prevention, detection, and management. We have also transitioned our weekly emergency medicine didactics to virtual Zoom meetings. The third class of EM fellows are graduating this month, and we hope to soon begin a 3-year EM residency – the first in Nepal. Nepali leaders recognize the need to expand emergency medicine services, and times like this emphasize the need.
If you’d like to join this partnership as a virtual educator, please contact Drs. Rose House or Kyle Yoder. Let’s continue to support, equip and learn from one another.
We’re all in this together.
