Jamie Jones, MD, is a graduate of DePauw University and The Ohio State University School of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at Wright State University in 1982. He served as faculty and later associate program director for the Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital-based emergency medicine residency before chairing the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mayo Hospital Arizona. Since returning to Indiana in 1999, he has held numerous leadership roles within the Eskenazi Health Sidney & Lois Hospital Emergency Department and the Indiana University School of Medicine, including vice chair of the academic department and assistant dean for graduate medical education. Nationally, Jamie served on the American Board of Emergency Medicine board of directors for a decade, including as president, and continues to contribute as an oral board examiner. He has also been a longstanding manuscript reviewer for Academic Emergency Medicine.
Jones will present "A Miracle in Paris" at the Airway, Breathing, Celebration CME event as part of the Department of Emergency Medicine residency program's 50th anniversary celebration. He said, "I hope attendees walk away learning that gratitude and purpose can lead to a fulfilling career in emergency medicine."
Question: What are you most excited about when you think about the future of emergency medicine and the next generation of physicians?
Jones: Emergency medicine will continue to be a cornerstone for the delivery of healthcare. Emergency medicine will continue to evolve as a specialty and it will continue to attract the best and brightest.
Q: What advice would you offer to current residents or early-career emergency physicians as they navigate their training and careers?
Jones: Embrace being a lifelong learner. Find people you can trust, and you like to work with.
Q: What continues to fuel your passion for emergency medicine?
Jones: The opportunity to care for society’s least fortunate.
