Troubleshooting MedNet Access Errors

Some members of Indiana University (including IU School of Medicine) community may run into errors when trying to access content on the School of Medicine's intranet site, MedNet.

This problem is especially frequent for dually employed faculty and others who have access to both IU Health and IU School of Medicine/IU email accounts and login credentials. Competing security technology between the two organizations prevents a person who is logged into an IU Health server or email account (sometimes automatically and without an individual having to log in through a clear login process) from being able to access the IU School of Medicine-secured MedNet server.

If you run into problems accessing MedNet, here are some steps you can try:

Option 1: Try a different browser.

Open a window for an internet browser you don't normally use. For example, if you normally use Chrome to access websites, try using Firefox or Safari instead. Then try to access the MedNet link again.

  • Pro tip: Use one browser to log in to your IU School of Medicine account exclusively, and use a different browser to log in to your IU Health account exclusively. For example, if you know you always use Firefox for IU Health and always use Chrome for IU School of Medicine, you can build a habit of accessing the appropriate content without having to troubleshoot each time.

Option 2: Try an "incognito" or private window.

Opening a private browser window or tab can disconnect your browsing session from your logged-in account (by not accessing your browser's saved cookies or form input data), prompting you to log in again when needed. This would allow you to attempt to log in using your IU School of Medicine (@iu.edu) email credentials.

Once you have opened a private window, try the MedNet link again. Log in using your @iu.edu email address.
